Hundred of Hundreds by Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar's hundred of hundreds scored in the ODI played against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup tournament is yet another mile stone of his career.Apart from the Indian Prime Minister, other former legends of cricket such as Sunil Gavaskar, Javed Mianded, and other have paid rich tributes on his achievement. He is the greatest batsman of this century.

Hundred of Hundreds by Sachin Tendulkar

The much awaited hundred of hundreds that eluded him more than a year, at last came from the cricketing legend and the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, when he cracked the 49 th century in the ODI played against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup tournament being held in Bangladesh.

Though the century might have helped Sachin Tendulkar as a crowning glory, it did not help the team’s cause. Though India scored 289 for 5, the hosts Bangladesh, perhaps motivated by Sachin’s 100 of 100s, successfully chased India’s total and won the match by scoring 293 for 5 wickets. Of course that was the beauty and the most characteristic feature of the game of cricket.

Though India lost the match rather shockingly, it was eclipsed by the 100 of 100s scored by Sachin. But it was the first ODI century scored by him against Bangladesh. By scoring this ODI century, Sachin Tendulkar has scored centuries against all cricket playing countries of the world. Sachin’s aggregate of 100 centuries include 51 centuries that he scored in the test matches and the 49 centuries that he scored in the ODIs. Sachin has scored as many as 9 centuries against Australia and 8 against Sri Lanka.

However, some former crickters have accused him stating that Sachin Tendulkar’s most of the centuries have not helped the team’s cause unlike Ricky Ponting whose 55 centuries out of 71 had helped the teams cause. It is an unfair criticism leveled against a great and dedicated batsman like Sachin Tendulkar. But it might be a sheer coincidence, just like his 100 of hundreds.Though Sachin Tendulkar’s century helped Indian team to post a huge total of 289 for 5 against Bangladesh, still the latter managed to put up a spirited performance to chase the total successfully and won the match, for which Sachin Tendulkar cannot be blamed.

In any event,Sachin Tendulkar’s feat is unparalleled and of course likely to remain unconquered in the annals of cricket. Having begun to play test cricket in the year 1989,at a very young age of 16.and even after playing 23 years of cricket for India, Sachin Tendulkar’s passion for cricket still remains undiminished. Perhaps Sachin’s family might have been very supportive throughout his cricketing career and it played a very crucial role in his Himalayan achievements in the game of cricket. Sachin Tendulkar’s flawless character, his unassuming personality and a thorough humility must have also played a significant role in his meteoric rise.

Having scored his 100 of Hundreds, Sachin Tendulkar has achieved yet another mile stone of his cricketing career and thereby enhancing his chances of  claiming the highest civilian honor awarded to an Indian citizen, ‘ Bharat Ratna.’.Of course, Sachin Tendulkar really deserves to receive the award.

Apart from the Indian Prime Minister, many Indian and foreign cricket legends such as Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vangsarkar, Steve Waugh, Michale Vaughan, Javed Mianded and others have paid glowing tributes to Sachin Tendulkar. It is befitting to conclude Sachin Tendulkar’s achievements by quoting the former English player Nasser Hussain:, ‘Though Don Bradman is great, I consider Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest player of this century.’
